A whale of a gift
All mothers struggle to keep up with the constant demands of their babies but spare a thought for humpback whale mums. After carrying her calf for 12 months a humpback mother will give birth to a 2.3 tonne, 4m calf that will then feed off her for 11 months before being weaned. Typically a calf will drink 45 litres of milk every day!
How this gift works...
Greenpeace’s campaigning forced the Japanese Government to back down on its plans to hunt Humpbacks in Antarctic waters. However, the internationally condemned whaling program continues to hunt whales, including mothers and their calves. Help us continue the fight against whaling and end the Japanese whaling program.
